As a minimum the item must be 90% made in New Zealand - ideally 100%. (We accept that say the silk material - if you made hand painted silk scarves for example is not grown and spun in NZ. Another example is the classic buzzy bee pull along toy - a number of the small mechanical parts that make the noise are now made in China). Talk to us, we might have another avenue for you to explore with one of our other businesses, or business associates.
We reserve the right not to sell your product (without giving any reason) if it is sexist, strips our native forest, pornographic, racist, demeaning to minors or offends our own morals and ethics and religious beliefs, or we just simply decide it does not fit with the other products and services we make ourselves, or represent of other manufacturers.
We have a 365 day money back warranty on all items we sell. In fact we remind them that the warranty is about to expire 330 days after purchase. No if, but's, or maybe's when a client comes back to us with an item they purchased from us because "it just fell apart".... First off, we have only had this happen twice in 3 years, and have sold thousands upon thousands of items in that time period... If and when it unfortunately occurs, we replace the item immediately and then will ask you for a replacement! Therefore, to minimize this from happening (and yes, we and the customer understands that sometimes a "slip-up" occurs), you need to make sure you have in place a great quality control procedure. You also should be aiming to be using the best quality materials and ingredients to make your product with. If it is a service you are interested in us being aligned with, then you will need to prove to us that your service is 110% safe and comply with all NZ Occupational and Health Standards etc. Please do not be offended with our decision if it is negative. We refuse over 50% of all items that people want us to sell. We are super fussy! Just improve your standards and reapply :-)
We do not want "mass produced" items that are endlessly made forever in a day, sold in our web store. However, we do insist that you have some uniformality from one item to the next, unless of course you are selling 1-off items like some of the paintings we sell. Remember, people are purchasing based on a photograph of the last item you made.
I recommend that you send one of your items to us for us to inspect and approve. We will return it within the week in exactly the same condition it arrived in, assuming it is not a food item - otherwise, it will be eaten and not returned :-) . Of course if it is a non-edible item or we will pay for it if it gets damaged and of course, I might just fall in love with it instantly and send you a cheque on the spot. This has happened before. I personally guarantee every item, hence why I MUST see a sample to assess quality.
This is critical for the success of your item selling. You need to take the photos or, preferably you get them taken by a professional photographer. Click here for us to send you the name of a couple of different photographers we highly recommend who are based all around New Zealand. Ideally your photos are a minimum of 450 pixels wide, length is unlimited, and taken in the best light to show them off. Send us in electronic format (by email or on CD). By all means send us group shot of the item in a photo, but we also need individual photo of each item as well.
Send us in electronic format (by email or on CD as a MS Word / Rich-Text-Format / Open Office document) full description about your product(s) or service(s). Please describe each item in full details. We need to know:
Remember the object cannot be held or rotated etc on the Internet (yet).
If you do not have access to accurate electronic scales, then please either visit you local NZ Post Shop and ask them to "please" weigh each item for you (ask them for a suitable quiet time when they could do this with you). Explain to them that it is in their interests to do this, as we will be shipping them via NZ Post all around the world. Make sure the weight includes the usual packaging (box/outer etc) that the item would normally be presented in. If you do not live near a business with scales, then you will need to send one of each item to us for us to weigh here.
We operate in the JIT (Just In Time) principle with all goods until we gather enough statistics on what items sell best, how often etc. When we receive an order we then immediately place an order on you for fulfillment. We expect you to ship item within 24 hours - or to tell us beforehand what your standard lead-time is on a item. (E.g.. Each one is handmade, and takes 1 week to make from placement of order). We then pay for item 20th of the month following, on the dot. We do not drag our payments. As an aside, we get the money from the merchant bank 6 weeks later after the client pays by credit card. We are not sitting gathering profit on the sale before we pay you.
Depending on the nature of the item or service you represent, we reserve the right to charge you a small monthly fee to be hosted in our web store. Obviously we would give you up-front warning of this, ideally before you make the decision to partnership with us. We get a lot of companies approaching us and wanting to be represented on our site. Every item takes up the equivalent of "floor space" and can generate a lot of traffic to the site, but not necessarily sell that often, or at all. We charge a One-Off Preparation / Upload Fee which includes the following: Crop & optimise the photos; Create the very important crafted sales letter (loaded with keywords) based around the images of your product and your description(s); Upload to site; Check for any errors by 3rd party contractor; Submit these newly created pages to top 5 search engines in the world; Add item(s) to our unique International & Domestic database for interest in other Retail / Wholesale Markets (with your agreement); Showcase in our monthly newsletter 'The Chocolate Fish Ezine'; Prep / Upload fee is NZD$10.00 per item. Note: Payable in advance, along with hosting fee. Monthly Hosting fee covers: A small percentage towards to the Real Estate costs of hosting your items, along with the increased Visitor Bandwidth that is associated with having these items on the site. Hosting fee is NZD$1.00 per item per month when you have 5 or less items. If you have 6+ items (that we agree to represent and sell), then our fee is NZD$0.50 per item per month.
