Hi, my name is Kristina Cope and I am the founder and manager of Products From New Zealand.com
I grew up with strong family moral and ethical values, combined with leadership roles from both my mother and father.

What Would I Do Without The Encouragement Of My Mum?...
My entrepreneurial mother entered the apparel trade creating her own range of knitwear under her label (Kay Austin), in addition to importing American cotton to supply customers throughout New Zealand.

This strong background in wholesale marketing has provided some of the incentive for my entry into the Internet market.

My Father's Influence Has Shaped Me Completely!...
My father, John Austin - an architect and entrepreneur, found a rapidly growing need in the building industry for a balance of quality of design mixed with commercial responsibility. His role in helping to found and build New Zealand's largest architectural firm, JASMAX - inspired me to also to appreciate design, form and function. I also qualified as an architect and specialised in Eco-design and rammed earth construction for.

The First Business I Created Was As An Architect...
Forming an architectural practice - Earthbuilding South Pacific (ESP), in 1994, which specialised in earth-made houses (adobe / rammed earth most often associated with New Mexico - USA), I came into contact with many New Zealand designers and manufacturers of innovative, unique, products and gifts.

I Learnt To Listen To What My Customers Wanted - & Then Learnt How To Exceed Their Expectations...
The owners of these companies wanted houses designed for them that reflected their desire to be in harmony with nature. It is some of these companies that are now the suppliers of product(s) to my company. From there, Products From New Zealand grew and grew in partnership with our manufacturers!

Meeting Simon Cope, my husband, in 1995, then providing specialist-consulting services in the solar electric energy (renewable energy generation) field, the 'sun' met the 'earth', and an inseparable bond was made.

The premises of "Products From New Zealand.com", embraces our commitment to energy conservation and renewal, 100% of the Products From New Zealand office and warehouse electricity is generated using solar electric modules (photovoltaics) on the roof, in combination with a separate solar hot water system to give piping hot water 365 days of the year. This is no back-country set up. We are based right within New Zealand's largest city - Auckland, close to the international airport, courier pick up depot etc. Our warehouse and office are fully equipped to handle your enquires, and ship to you in a timely manner.

Year 2002: After selling our lounge furniture to make room for expansion of the business we had nowhere to sleep... (Just kidding)

2001 was an exciting year! Launching www.ProductsFromNZ.com was a project Simon and I were ready to embrace - and within the first week of going live... we had our first order from Charles Kang in the USA:

We Knew You Trusted Us To Send You Goodies Across The Planet When We Sold Our Lounge Furniture...
From humble beginnings in the hall of our house, working away while our two toddlers were sleeping, to then eventually removing the furniture from the lounge to make way for desks and computers (hall was now filled with boxes and stock) - see photo :-)

We Needed More Room For Stock, Picking, Packing & Shipping! We started to seriously run out of room for the 2000+ products and gifts from New Zealand items we stock to ship to you all around the world!
So we moved to Meadowbank, Auckland, right next to the Meadowbank Railway Station. And started to run out of room again...

Year 2005: When the children went to bed we went to work... Thankfully we now have a separate 2000 sq foot (200m2) area for our store & offices...Can we ship you a special gift from New Zealand?

We Needed To Separate Out WORK From Our Personal Life... 10 Years have passed since we started working on our business plans to create one of the first e-commerce online stores in New Zealand (yes in the years 1999 to 2001 here in New Zealand we didn't have broadband ADSL - we were all using 56K modems (or were they 36K or something shockingly slow like that!!))... and we needed to get some life-work balance in place! So we added on and built a 2000 square foot office area and warehouse as the business slowly and steadily grows.

My husband Simon Cope's experience in sales and marketing, along with studying towards his Masters in Business Administration enabled us to go to the next level of maturity. Working closely with our webmaster Andrew at Evergreen Computing we formed a successful team.
